Adobe Abandoning Mobile Flash

 Adobe announced today that they will be ceasing development of their mobile Flash player. Apple has been slowly trying to destroy Flash by refusing to support the platform on iOS (and even removing the plugin from the MacBook Air), and while HTML5 may be able to replace Flash in the coming years, there is still a lot of Flash content on the web that should be accessible to mobile devices. Adobe will be updating the current release with bug fixes and security updates, but don’t expect any new features. The company will be shifting their efforts to HTML5 and mobile apps.

Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major App Stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations. Some of our source code licensees may opt to continue working on and releasing their own implementations. We will continue to support the current Android and PlayBook configurations with critical bug fixes and security updates.
